About Kaytee

PSYCHOTHERAPIST, AUTHOR, EDUCATOR

Hi! I’m Kaytlyn! Most call me Kaytee.

I work with survivors of traumatic families. I am also a survivor, so I get it. Many of us are struggling with how to live a happy and fulfilling life with all of the lingering feelings and symptoms that stay with us as a result of our experiences.

Unfortunately, trauma from our family of origin does not end when we leave home. Maybe we were scapegoated or blamed- first for the abuse and then after coming out about it. This blame and shame stay with us, showing up in our relationships, friendships, even in our professional life.

In my professional and my personal experience, I have noticed a connection between domestic violence and family violence. Many of us grow up and enter relationships that mimic the dysfunction we experienced with our caregivers. It takes time to learn to understand and break these patterns.

My books and articles explore how these experiences show up, and how to learn to work through- or live with- them. I draw from psychodynamic therapy, attachment-based interventions, and parts work to provide a holistic approach to support and healing.

A little about me:

I’m a millennial: I’ll keep my skinny jeans and ankle socks, but I don’t like avocado toast!

Nerdy and neurodivergent: Autistic (and some ADHD)

INFJ: The outgoing introvert. I’ll have you laughing with my dad jokes, then I will hibernate and recover from the social interaction.

Queer: 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

Femme: Love dresses and nail polish, but no heels here.

Coffee order: Vanilla latte (and a good pumpkin spice)

Curly: Yes, it’s natural. And no, I have never straightened it 😉 (okay, maybe once)

Cat mom: To three baby chonks who are my whole world. I am child-free by choice, and they are my children. (But, I have the most respect for parents! You all have the most difficult job in the world- especially those who are breaking cycles!)

My passions

  • Soft cardigans (It’s a therapist thing)

  • Sushi. Lots of sushi

  • A good cup of coffee (or two)

  • Animals- especially rescues

A book titled 'Breaking the Cycle' about healing from childhood family trauma is prominently displayed in front of her.
