Cats and healing from trauma
If you've followed me for any length of time, you've probably met my cats: Gomez, Binx, and Fluff. They're my writing assistants and my video co-stars. They help me teach classes and conduct trainings, (all while reminding me that boundaries are easier to teach than to enforce). But most importantly, they have helped me heal.
But there's a reason cats show up so often in my work. As a trauma therapist, I spend a lot of time thinking and writing about safety, relationships, and healing. Animals have a way of bringing many of those ideas to life for me and for other survivors. Sometimes intentionally, and sometimes by climbing onto my back while I'm trying to do the dishes. (IYKYK).
The Cat Couch is where I bring those worlds together: mental health, healing, and how animals help us do all of these things.
